Govend; is a Kurdish dance style that stands for the abbreviation of “goden” (sound) and “venden” (moment).
Sound in the moment. Your voice, your story, your dynamics in motion, an instrument, a song, a book, the wind, you and me.
The moment is where you are at the given moment. I find myself here. I need you and yourself to be here so we can take steps within ourselves. How do I get you and me there?
The Kurds’s say: It is dangerous for us to speak, so we dance. Kurdish dance is a way of fighting and starts from a specific need, motor, power, resistance and hope. In THE UNTAMABLE CREATURE WITH THE FLOWERED DRESS, Diktas wants to explore this engine within herself. What emerges from it? Where does it take her?
Govend is about the collective, making a fire together while moving repetitively. But each one matters in this. Diktas wants to create a base rhythm of her own, a repetition in the movement rhythm of govend. So it can build out into a new dance idiom. Together with her dahul (drum), Melisa will explore the different layers of the timeline to become a true Çîrokbêj (“storyteller”). With govend, by govend but in her own potential.
Melisa Diktas is a mover of Kurdish/Indonesian descent. After her graduation, 7 years ago she started as a dancer in the commercial field. Meanwhile she danced for diferent events and productions, choreographed TV shows and videoclips and works in Theaters.
Today she is mainly engaged in her own research. Although Melisa grew up with the folkloric dances, she is driven to specialize in the core of the movement. In order to get this new dance idiom she is creating a fundamental ground to build on. She took folkloric dance classes in Holland. And in 2022 she went to Istanbul, to take govend courses from Erhan Zaza. Followed by a fulltime course at Govend Instandbul Arjen Brusk dance school. She travelled through 8 cities in Northern Kurdistan to research Kurdish dances. She travels back and forward to Istanbul to do research. She participated in an research in Amsterdam in collaboration with ART& Amsterdam, Cheroney Pelupessy and Gi Au-Yeung. During a residency in Sweden she deepend her research into govend in collaboration with director Marit Shirin Carolasdotter with whom she co-choreographed the project ‘No friend but the mountains’.

Govend; is een Koerdische dansstijl wat staat voor de afkorting van “goden” (geluid) en “venden” (moment).
Sound in the moment. Je stem, je verhaal, je dynamiek in beweging, een instrument, een lied, een boek, de wind, jij en ik.
Het moment is de plek waar je op dat ogenblik bent. Ik vind mezelf hier. Het is nodig dat jij en jezelf hier zijn, om in onszelf stappen te kunnen zetten. Hoe krijg ik jou en mezelf daar?
De Koerden zeggen: Het is gevaarlijk voor ons om te spreken, dus dansen we. Koerdische dans is een manier van vechten en gaat uit van een specifieke behoefte, motor, kracht, verzet en hoop. In THE UNTAMABLE CREATURE WITH THE FLOWERED DRESS wil Diktas deze motor in zichzelf onderzoeken. Wat komt eruit voort? Waar brengt het haar?
Govend gaat over het collectief, samen een vuur maken terwijl je repetitief beweegt. Maar ieder doet er toe. Diktas wil een eigen basisritme creëren, een herhaling in het bewegingsritme van govend. Zodat het kan uitgroeien tot een nieuwe danstaal. Samen met haar dahul (drums) zal Melisa de verschillende lagen van de tijdlijn verkennen om een echte Çîrokbêj (“verhalenverteller”) te worden. Met govend, door govend maar in haar eigen potentieel.
Melisa Diktas is een beweger van Koerdisch/Indonesische afkomst. Na haar afstuderen begon ze 7 jaar geleden als danseres in het commerciële circuit. Ondertussen danste ze voor verschillende evenementen en producties, choreografeerde ze tv-shows en videoclips en werkte ze in theaters.
Tegenwoordig is ze vooral gericht op haar eigen onderzoek. Hoewel Melisa is opgegroeid met folkloristische dansen, is ze gedreven om zich te specialiseren in de kern van de beweging. Zo krijgt het nieuwe dansidioom een fundamentele basis om op voort te bouwen. Ze volgde folkloristische danslessen in Nederland. En in 2022 ging ze naar Istanbul om govend cursussen te volgen bij Erhan Zaza. Gevolgd door een fulltime cursus bij Govend Instandbul Arjen Brusk dansschool. Ze reisde door 8 steden in Noord-Koerdistan om onderzoek te doen naar Koerdische dansen. Ze reist heen en weer naar Istanbul om onderzoek te doen. Ze nam deel aan een research art programma in Amsterdam in samenwerking met ART& Amsterdam, Cheroney Pelupessy en Gi Au-Yeung. Tijdens haar residentie in Zweden dook ze verder in haar onderzoek naar govend samen met regisseur Marit Shirin Carolasdotter met wie ze het project ‘No friend but the mountains’ co-choreografeerde.

Govend est un style de danse kurde qui est l’abréviation de “goden” (son) et “venden” (moment).
Le son dans l’instant. Votre voix, votre histoire, votre dynamique en mouvement, un instrument, une chanson, un livre, le vent, vous et moi. Le moment est là où vous êtes à cet instant. Je me trouve ici. Il est nécessaire pour vous et pour vous-même d’être ici, afin de faire des pas à l’intérieur de nous-mêmes. Mais comment y arriver, toi et moi ?
Les Kurdes disent: il est dangereux pour nous de parler, alors nous dansons. La danse kurde est une façon de lutter et répond à un besoin spécifique, un moteur, une force, une résistance et un espoir. Dans THE UNTAMABLE CREATURE WITH THE FLOWERED DRESS, Diktas veut explorer ce moteur en lui-même. Qu’en ressort-il ? Où l’emmène-t-il ?
Govend, c’est le collectif, faire du feu ensemble en mouvement répétitif. Mais chacun compte. Diktas veut créer son propre rythme de base, une répétition dans le rythme de mouvement du govend. Pour qu’il puisse évoluer vers un nouveau langage de danse. Avec son dahul (drums), Melisa explorera les différentes couches de la ligne du temps pour devenir une véritable Çîrokbêj (“conteuse”). Avec govend, par govend, mais dans son propre potentiel.
Melisa Diktas est une performeuse d’origine kurde et indonésienne. Après avoir obtenu son diplôme, elle a commencé à travailler comme danseuse dans le circuit commercial il y a 7 ans. Parallèlement, elle a dansé pour divers événements et productions, chorégraphié des émissions de télévision et des vidéos musicales et travaillé dans des théâtres.
Aujourd’hui, elle se consacre principalement à ses propres recherches. Bien que Melisa ait grandi avec les danses folkloriques, elle est poussée à se spécialiser dans les mouvements de base. Cela donne au nouvel idiome de la danse une base fondamentale sur laquelle s’appuyer. Elle a suivi des cours de danse folklorique aux Pays-Bas. En 2022, elle se rend à Istanbul pour suivre des cours de govend avec Erhan Zaza. Elle a ensuite suivi un cours à temps plein à l’école de danse govend Instandbul Arjen Brusk. Elle a parcouru huit villes du nord du Kurdistan pour faire des recherches sur les danses kurdes. Elle fait des allers-retours à Istanbul pour faire des recherches. Elle a participé à un programme de recherche artistique à Amsterdam en collaboration avec ART& Amsterdam, Cheroney Pelupessy et Gi Au-Yeung. Pendant sa résidence en Suède, elle a approfondi ses recherches sur le govend avec la réalisatrice Marit Shirin Carolasdotter, avec qui elle a chorégraphié le projet “No friend but the mountains” (Pas d’autre ami que les montagnes).
