“Connect with your demons” is een artistiek onderzoek naar het onvermogen of onwil om verbinding te maken met onze demonen, namelijk dat deel in onszelf dat we steeds neigen te vermijden. Vaak uit angst om niet perfect bevonden te worden. Maar ben je perfect als je niet trouw bent aan jezelf?

Alex Akuete aka X-Ray is danser, schilder en modeontwerper. In 2018 richtte hij het X-ray collectief op. Met deze groep jongeren presenteerde hij de Work In Progress Connect With your Demons tijdens WIPCOOP 2019 in Arenberg.

Gisteren, kwam een klein wezen van 1.100 kg…heel vroeg de wereld op. Gevoed door sondes, in een couveuse, veel te hard beschermd om mijn eigen bestwil, opdat niets me nog meer zou verzwakken.
Vandaag, na 28 jaar, ben ik een man geworden die danst in ruimtes die me gisteren verpletterd zouden hebben. Vandaag ben ik zelf vader. Wat is mijn kwetsbaarheid vandaag?

“Connect with your demons” is an artistic reseach about the inability or unwillingness to connect with our demons, namely the part in ourselves that we tend to avoid. Often for fear of not being found perfect. But are you perfect if you are not loyal to yourself?

Alex Akuete aka X-Ray is a dancer, painter and fashion designer. In 2018 he founded the X-ray collective. With this group of youngsters he presented the Work In Progress “Connect With your Demons” during WIPCOOP 2019 in Arenberg.
