Through words, images, sounds and dance, Mano Amaro carries you along through time and continents. After an intense process of fine-tuning the work at Walpurgis, it is time for the final step in this creative process.

NOORD/SUL – Mano Amaro makes a journey from: his ancestors in Africa, through the Portuguese slave trade to his birthplace Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, to his current residence in Antwerp. A story about migration, cultural heritage, tradition, segregation and identity, interspersed with suffering, trial and error, faith, resistance and survival.
Through word, image and music, Afro-Brazilian and contemporary dance, Mano connects this history with carnival.

From May 9th until June 1st, Mano Amaro is artist-in-residence at WALPURGIS, where he will complete the performance NOORD/SUL together with Mike Van Alfen and the support of the artistic team of WALPURGIS.
Mano Amaro, born in Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, is a dancer and choreographer. Between 2010 and 2014 he practised Ori Dança in Europe and Brazil. He danced with contemporary companies such as Contém Dança and Nat Gras. In his solo work, he reveals his own style of dance, rooted in various Afro-Brazilian styles and contemporary dance.
