BEING HUMAN ISN’T THAT ENOUGH? A dance solo by Nina Plantefève Castryck

We first met her as coach of a group of young performers working on the play Connect With Your Demons by Alex Akuete (WIPCOOP Sessions 2020 – Rataplan).

Gradually, we learned more about her artistic trajectory. Nina attended school at the Antwerp ballet school and later toured with contemporary dance companies. But it beckoned to develop her own dance style and body of work in which she could incorporate her passion for a mix of styles, working with young dancers and her artistic rejoinder to social or societal realities.

For both Around and Our House, two performances she created with and for young audiences, she single-handedly gathered the dancers, arranged rehearsal spaces, resources, an artistic and technical crew and a premiere venue. A drive that produced beautiful results. You will hear more about Our House soon.

In a residency collaboration between MAP, wp Zimmer & STORM OP KOMST Festival, she and Alex Akuete also developed Circuit (2022), an installation inspired by their dance duet Essence of Life., in which children can experiment with movement and sound.

We also caught word in the corridors that she will also join KVS and Jr.cesar’s new production Risa.

BEING HUMAN, ISN’T THAT ENOUGH

During WIPCOOP 2021, we saw a first Work In Progress of the solo Being Human, Isn’t That Enough? This time Nina takes the audience into a reflection on man and society, to a utopian world. What if the world were populated only by silhouettes, without external differences ?
Is being human not enough ?
