Geinspireerd door de schokkende gebeurtenissen in Juni 2020 die leidden tot de moord op Georges Floyd en de wereldwijde responsen van solidariteit en verzet tegen racisme, schrijft Olave Nduwanjede een theatertekst die de impact van (institutioneel) anti-Zwart racisme op individuen en hun geliefden verkent.

EEN BUBBEL VAN VIJF. Via een familie van vier maken we kennis met de gelaagdheid en verschillen van perspectieven, copingmechanismen en verzet strategieën die Zwarte mensen individueel inzetten, onderling betwisten en collectief formuleren in een vijandige en gewelddadige wereld. Via deze tekst en doordachte personages wil Nduwanjede ons een inkijk geven in intergenerationele gesprekken die plaatsvinden binnen Zwarte families over immigratie, ras, gender, kapitalisme, geaardheid, mentale gezondheid en de zin en onzin van toekomstdromen.

Olave Nduwanje is momenteel werkzaam als copyright-editor voor een internationale vrouwenfonds en als freelance schrijfster. Ze werd gepubliceerd in een aantal bloemlezingen – Zwart – Afro-Europeanse Literatuur uit de Lage Landen (2018), Being Imposed Upon (2020) en De Goede Immigrant (2020). Daarnaast publiceerde ze de laatste paar jaren teksten voor kranten en media platforms als De Standaard, OneWorld Magazine, en ook het NRC Handelsblad (dat haar in 2020 opnam in haar lijst van 101 Nieuwe Talenten).

Inspired by the shocking events in June 2020 that led to the murder of Georges Floyd and the global responses of solidarity and resistance to racism, Olave Nduwanjede is writing a theatre text that explores the impact of (institutional) anti-Black racism on individuals and their loved ones.

A BUBBLE OF FIVE. Through a family of four, we are introduced to the layers and differences in perspectives, coping mechanisms and resistance strategies that Black people individually deploy, contest among themselves and collectively formulate in a hostile and violent world. Through this text and thoughtful characters, Nduwanjede aims to give us an insight into intergenerational conversations taking place within Black families about immigration, race, gender, capitalism, orientation, mental health and the sense and nonsense of future dreams.

Olave Nduwanje currently works as a copyright editor for an international women’s fund and as a freelance writer. She has been published in a number of anthologies – Black – Afro-European Literature from the Low Countries (2018), Being Imposed Upon (2020) and The Good Immigrant (2020). She has also published texts for newspapers and media platforms such as De Standaard, OneWorld Magazine, and also the NRC Handelsblad (which included her in its list of 101 New Talents in 2020) over the last few years.
