BOYTOY is a flashback of a past life. A reality that shaped and scarred them. A story they survived and fortunately escaped. It tells a tale of a queer brown identity forced into a heteronormative white world, that took away their culture, denied their expression and violated their body.

BOYTOY is a reflection of what years of mental, physical and sexual abuse, oppression and rejection, can inflict on a young kid’s views upon society and interactions with others.How solitude, depression and distrust take over. Yet somehow there is hope and a way out. How art becomes a saviour, how dance becomes the mentor to show them a way out.

Mikael De Geyter (they/them) is a queer brown multidisciplinary performer, born of Belgian and South East Asian, Chinese and Filipino descent. They were raised in strict conformity. Bit by bit they broke away from that and built their own identity and life, dedicated to the arts. Starting with a background in music and classical opera singing, they found themselves the most within dance. Creating a full-time career as a dancer & choreographer, training in heels, Waacking, Vogue Femme and Vogue New Way.

Other interests have found their way to them like makeup, hair, creating fashion, acting & dJ’ing, which can all be combined into a new vessel called Puki Harana. Mikael’s drag persona. A being, a clean slate, a fresh start to focus and connect with other layers of their personality and a hommage to their Filipino Heritage.

BOYTOY is een flashback van een vorig leven. Een realiteit die hen gevormd en getekend heeft. Een verhaal dat die overleefde en waaraan die gelukkig is ontsnapt. Het vertelt het verhaal van een queer bruine identiteit, gedwongen in een heteronormatieve blanke wereld, die diens cultuur afnam, diens expressie ontkende en diens lichaam geweld aandeed.

BOYTOY is een weerspiegeling van wat jaren van geestelijk, lichamelijk en seksueel misbruik, onderdrukking en afwijzing kan doen met de blik van een jong kind op de maatschappij en de omgang met anderen. Hoe eenzaamheid, depressie en wantrouwen de overhand nemen. Toch is er hoop én een uitweg! Of hoe kunst een redder wordt en hoe dans de mentor wordt die hen een uitweg toont.

Mikael De Geyter is een queer multidisciplinaire performer, geboren met een Belgische en Zuidoost Aziatische, Chinese en Filipijnse achtergrond. Mikael groeide op in strikte conformiteit. Beetje bij beetje werden de banden doorbroken en bouwde die een eigen identiteit en leven op, gewijd aan de kunsten. Beginnend met een achtergrond in muziek en klassieke operazang, vond Mikael zichzelf het meest in dans en creëerde een fulltime carrière als danser en choreograaf en trainden in hakken, Waacking, Vogue Femme en Vogue New Way.

Andere interesses zoals make-up, haar, het creëren van mode, acteren & dJ’en worden allen gecombineerd in een nieuw vat genaamd Puki Harana. Mikael’s drag persona. Een wezen, een schone lei, een frisse start om zich te focussen en te verbinden met andere lagen van hun persoonlijkheid en een hommage aan hun Filipijnse erfgoed.
