What’s Cooking? WIPCOOP BXL at KVS

WIPCOOP BXL presents six “Work In Progress” presentations. On the menu:

** Izo Pinay shifts the religious discourse into a space of radical, inclusive, and embodied love. In *Thank God I’m Not Straight*, seemingly irreconcilable identities as a queer person and a Catholic, reconcile, when Izo reappropriates biblical texts.

** With *Secret Songs*, Ivan Kevork Azazian, Gökhan Kizilbuga, and Marios Bellas reconnect with their brotherhood and explore what they share based on their backgrounds in Palestine/Armenia, Kurdistan, and Greece. They remember, honor, and mourn what has been lost and what is being lost today, and invite us to look forward together.

** Myra Schouten & Yasmine Deroui write letters to one another (and to themselves) to share experiences from their journeys to Morocco, a place that carries roots of both makers. but as personal memories become entangled with migration histories, research and current events, their perspective begins to shift. (FATHERLAND).

** Between cinematic aesthetics and industrial rhythms, Lemy Veyt explores social ties through the lens of the subway. In Metronorm two dancers embody the inevitable coming together of shared routines and paths that collide with one another.

** Doris Bokongo Nkumu and Amadou Lamine Sow analyze with Leugeute — Wolof for “scars” — both the intimate and political dimensions of immigration in a duet that blends house, hip-hop, contemporary dance, and traditional African dances.

** Luz draws on Cape Verdean children’s songs that seem to have settled deep within the body in *to swallow my grandmother’s tongue. How does the body react to the unraveling of a language you don’t speak, but one that flows through your veins?
