BEING HUMAN, ISN’T THAT ENOUGH? A dance performance by Nina Plantefève Castryck

About: Nina Plantefeve Castryck.

We first met her as coach of a group of young performers working on Alex Akuete’s piece Connect With Your Demons (WIPCOOP Sessions 2020 – Rataplan).

Gradually, we learned more about her artistic journey. Nina went to school at the Antwerp ballet school and toured with contemporary dance companies afterwards. However, she was eager to develop her own dance style and oeuvre in which she could channel her passion for a mix of styles, work with young dancers and express her artistic response to social or societal realities.

Both for Rond and Ons Huis, two performances she created with and for young audiences, she single-handedly gathered the dancers, arranged rehearsal spaces, resources, an artistic and technical crew and a premiere venue. An enthusiasm that generated beautiful results. You will hear more about Ons Huis soon.

In a residency collaboration between MAP, wp Zimmer & Storm Op Komst Festival, she and Alex Akuete Circuit (Jan, May and Nov 2022) also developed an installation inspired by their dance duet Essence of Life, in which children can experiment with movement and sound.

We heard in the corridors that she will also participate in the new production Risa by KVS and Jr.cesar.

BEING HUMAN, ISN’T THAT ENOUGH

During WIPCOOP 2021, we saw a first Work In Progress of the solo Being Human, Isn’t That Enough? This time, Nina takes the audience into a reflection on humans and society, towards a utopian world. What if the world were populated only by silhouettes, without external differences ? Is being human not enough ?
