Aya Sabi & Alphonse Eklou Uwantege ON #LAFS10
And an Honorable Mention for Işıl Biçakçi in Amsterdam.
This fall you will meet Aya Sabi and Dounia Mahammed with their research on intergenational comfort as well as Alphonse Eklou Uwantege’s poetic reste(s) during Love at First Sight. Shown last year as a Work in Progress, soon to be seen at LAFS and other places!
This is (not) the evolutionary theory of comfort is an investigation by Aya Sabi and Dounia Mahammed – through language, philosophy and imagination, about how we deal with pain and comfort. Why have we limited intergenerationality only to trauma? Is there such a thing as intergenerational comfort being passed on? To see December 4 – Arenberg, 3 p.m. & 7 p.m. #LAFS10
The work confronts inherited pain while tracing a path toward transcendence.
Intergenerational comfort: an inheritable sense of security and trust.
Alphonse Eklou Uwantege brings reste(s), a physical and poetic performance – connecting the personal and the collective – in which dance, voice and silence intersect. On view Dec. 11 – Monty, 8:30 p.m. #LAFS10
restes(s) is a ritual. A tribute to Alphonse Kanimba – the creator’s uncle – who died during the genocide of the Tutsis in Rwanda in April 1994. What remains of a human being? And what do we carry, even if we don’t choose to? A solo about origins and family ties that can carry but also suffocate. About memories settling in our bodies.
Curious about the path these creators have taken since WIPCOOP last year? Find out during #LAFS10 in Antwerp or consult the calendar HERE. P.S.: we add regular updates.
AND we are also so very proud to mention…. Işıl Biçakçi returned home from the Amsterdam Fringe Festival with an honorable mention for Cage-Free.
The jury praised the performance as an original and layered performance in which Biçakçi transforms a playful metaphor into a sharp critique of the pressures of capitalist productivity, with dance and storytelling at its core.
With an Honourable Mention, the jury emphasizes that they see the creator and the importance of their work. According to the jury, Cage-Free by Işıl Bıçakçı is distinctive “as a penetrating and urgent work by a performer with a rare combination of charisma and presence. (source – Theaterkrant 15.05.2025)
