Now how are things going for Omar Cortegana?

Na een passage op WIPCOOP 2023 in Campo Victoria voerden we gesprekken met Omar Cortegana over: Peke, alles waait beter met una cancion, een muzikale theatervoorstelling voor kinderen (én hun ouders).*

In 2024, we saw the OPEN CALL of Op Visite pass and Omar was obviously one of the artists to whom the open call should definitely be passed on. And so it happened. Omar was immediately excited, applied and was selected! The ball got rolling. After a series of rehearsals with fellow actor Jim Maes, some coaching sessions with Nele Vereecken and a tryout with a few classes from Borgerhout at Rataplan, they were ready. From October to June (2025), Omar and Jim performed 62 school plays in and around Antwerp.

How is Omar doing now?
Recently, we received a NOTICE:

Over the past year, we have had many laughs every week and received positive feedback from children who saw the performance. It was also very enriching to have the opportunity to grow our characters during that time.

*Peke, alles waait beter met una cancion tells the life of a Peruvian-Belgian family. We follow: Peke, with his adventures and struggles. And his father, a musician from Peru. Still searching for his place in the new land, he stands by his son, hoping the wind blows in their favor.

¿Quién es? Omar Cortegana is a social psychologist, musician and artist. He acts, is at home in storytelling and stand-up comedy but music is always the core element in his own projects. He composed music for theater and short films such as “Pasaje de Ida” and “¿Quién es?” by Victor Mendivil, and “Al inmenso pueblo” by Joan Alonso Cabrera. Peke alles waait beter met una cancion, is based on a children’s music book he published.
