Kidnapped – Frames of a Contemporary Landscape is a penetrating and surprising theatrical performance that examines our times. What if the world we live in is actually a shared political hallucination – shaped by neoliberal ideas, colonial legacies and a system that makes us believe there is “no alternative”?
Using the metaphor of a kidnapping, Kidnapped shows how our choices – cultural, political and personal – are often driven by market interests and identity struggles, without the real power structures ever faltering.
In the performance, two characters, Terror and Compassion, take the audience on a journey that begins as a playful children’s show, but soon takes a dark turn. They treat the audience as “kidnapped children” and, through spiraling dramaturgy, lead them past confrontational political insights and historical phantoms – from world leaders to pop icons.
Kidnapped – Frames of a Contemporary Landscape will premiere October 3, 2025 at De Brakke Grond!
