The Assignment
As a little boy, my father gave me an assignment without direction. ‘Son, you are my first child, a strong boy, with great power.’ As a little boy and as a young adult, I did not understand him. But as a South African, born and raised during the apartheid regime, I searched for what I truly desired. Education was the first key. Zukisa Nante trained at Market Theatre Laboratory in Johannesburg, South Africa. There he founded the UNISA drama group The children of the soil. In Belgium, he has appeared in such plays as ‘De Blinden’ (LOD muziektheater), ‘Aangespoeld’ (Martha!tentative & Theater Froefroe), ‘Macbeth’ (kunstZ), ‘Het Vertrek Van De Mier’ (kunstZ/Toneelhuis/HETPALEIS), ‘Hannibal’ (t’ arsenaal & Le Manege), ‘One can never go back’ (kunstZ/MAF WIP2013) and ‘Scarlatti’ (t’ arsenaal) and several productions by Madam Fortuna: ‘De moed om onvolmaakt te zijn’, ‘Stem Van De Stad’, ‘De Feesten van Pijn en Hoop’ and ‘Als we dansen, zal oma niet sterven’.
