#WIPCOOP 2025
Speech Lapse: Exhibition No. 4 was created in response to the “Woman – Life – Freedom” uprising that began in Iran in September 2022. The project tracks the written aftershocks of protest: diary excerpts, coded chat logs, notes at the edge of receipts, time-coded transcripts of spoken texts. Every document carries risk and offers resistance by the simple fact of documenting.
Nazanin’s research focuses on disruption: how state censorship, fear and urgency suppress speech, and on the quiet work of recovery done by those who nevertheless continue to write. By aggregating private testimony into a shared, ever-changing archive, Speech Lapse explores how memories can shift when official history closes its doors.
Nazanin Bahrami (she/her) is a performance artist whose work is at the intersection of performance, collage and painting. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Acting and Directing from Tehran University and a master’s degree in Applied Theatre Studies from Justus-Liebig University in Giessen. In 2017, she founded the research-based art collective Un-formula, which promotes dialogue between performance and visual art while embracing social and cultural practices.
Committed to exploring the role of art in society, she deepened her expertise through the follow-up program Art as Social Practice. Her creative practice focuses on the performative exploration of grief and death, with particular attention to the gender dimensions of grief. Through lecture-performances, dance and other formats, she explores how female bodies experience grief, protest and resistance over time.
Nazanin is collaborating with Tatwerk Berlin for this Work In Progress.
