#WIPCOOP 2023Anna Karenina Lambrechts explores roots and identity in her first dance solo From Gravity to Grace. By exploring different dance styles, she fathoms the multiplicity and diversity of her roots. The soundscape was designed by Elko Blijweert and perfectly complements the powerful movement language of Anna Karenina. Through an immersive mix of haunting sounds and pulsating tones, music and body merge. Luc Schaltin creates a pervasive lighting design that highlights this emotional quest. Through understanding and acceptance, she moves toward eventual transformation.
From Gravity To Grace reveals a unique and highly personal dance language that transcends the boundaries of styles, cultures and time. Krump, traditional Filipino dance and contemporary dance are interwoven and dispersed. They are taken out of their traditional frames and juxtaposed against each other. In the dialogue that emerges between these styles, Anna Karenina creates an entirely new movement language that reflects her multifaceted identity.
In her dance, Anna Karenina moves between the earthly and the heavenly, where attachment and detachment alternate. She seeks ways to embrace the various dance forms she carries within her, telling a story of inner strength, connection and transformation. This performance is an ode to a mixed identity, and how a diversity of roots may first and foremost be a great strength.
Anna Karenina Lambrechts is a dancer from Leuven. Since graduating from Fontys Hogeschool voor de Kunsten (Tilburg /NL), she has been primarily active professionally in Brussels. In 2017, she joined Anton Lachky Company and worked on three productions: Cartoon, Family Journey and Ludum. She then went on to work at Ultima Vez / Wim Vandekeybus and was featured in: Go Figure Out Yourself, Traces, Hands Do Not Touch Your Precious Me and Scattered Memories. Starting in 2021, she is considering her own work centered on the search for identity and finding ways to express one’s deepest identity. She also immerses herself in Krump, an energetic and expressive urban dance form in which raw emotions find expression in a powerful way, and is part of the krump collective Drickx Konzi. Her first solo performance From Gravity To Grace will premiere April 3, 2025 at STUK, Leuven.
