#WIPCOOP 2024Semiotics of the Household stems from Anastassya’s own context and life story as a young woman who was once a refugee. Her safe life in Belgium is in stark contrast to her native country (Belarus) and where she spent her childhood (Israel). Combined with her experiences as a young mother, this creates a palpable, bizarre duality: warm domesticity in a world where wars rage.
Semiotics of the Household is an attempt to give place to these paradoxical feelings. It is about shattering the familiar to create uncertainty, turning the familiar into something alienating or even threatening.
Anastassya Savitsky (she/her) graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. Since then she worked mainly as a dancer and creator in the children’s and youth circuit (Theater FroeFroe, hetpaleis, solo Dinska Bronska MartHa!tentatief – selected for the Theater Festival 2014).
In 2020, she created her first own production Stellar Boem 6+, a combination of dance and visual theater that grew out of old Soviet animation. Her newest play, Wanderink 6+, will premiere in March 2025. A symbiosis of live drawing and dance.
She is currently developing her artistic research into displacement and alienation, creating a choreographic language that stems from the representation of the female body in art.
