About connection, difference and the thin lines between them

4 x work in progress on care, identity and connection – WIPCOOP Antwerp

Thursday, Nov. 20, during WIPCOOP in Arenberg, Gwendalyne van Erp and Deniz Polatoğlu, Kaspy Ndia, Yvette Poumpalova, Zilan Nergiz Arsu, Bora Nura & Eden Anastasia Emlek will each present a Work in Progress of up to 30 minutes, followed by a conversation with the audience and a group of professionals. As part of the audience, you can slide around the table with Joana Rossi during the breaks and -together- talk about the work on display; or you can dive into Enrica Camporesi’s exploration of “in-between spaces”…

What the WIP? WIPCOOP brings an annual program with a philosophy that focuses on collaboration and long-term commitments. The WIPCOOP days mark the start of development trajectories that many organizations are committed to working on together with MAP.

4 x Work In Progress

9:30 -17:00

Polly & Esther – Gwendalyne van Erp & Deniz Polatoğlu
A black musical thriller comedy full of absurd humor, suspense and tragedy. Two half-sisters care for their paralyzed father, balancing between care and suffocation. A tragicomic trip about isolation and control that will make you laugh and wince – for those who love family dramas with a twist.

Mirror – Kaspy Ndia
Music, visual art and dance flow together in a poetic narrative. Kaspy shares an intimate experience of recognition and connection created from hundreds of drawn portraits, rituals of attention and presence. Each portrait brought him closer to the other but also to himself. On se voit dans le reflet de l’autre.

For the last time, give me your eyes – Yvette Poumpalova
A ritual quest for heritage, inspired by the Bulgarian Kuker tradition*, that both comforts and carries weight. About coming home and connection. On identity and the power of lore. What do we take away, what do we leave behind and where do we create space to heal?

*Kuker tradition: an ancient Bulgarian ritual performed in handmade animal costumes and masks. Between New Year and the beginning of spring, Kukers dance and jump to drive away evil spirits. With their ritual movements, they bring good luck, health and prosperity for the new year.

Where figs don’t grow – Zilan Nergiz Arsu, Bora Nura & Eden Anastasia Emlek
Three young makers combine their voices in a performance about home, saying goodbye and connection. Where figs don’t grow, three women meet between difference and recognition. How proximity and difference can go hand in hand.
