Naïm Belhaloumi

SOMETHING IS COOKING – Naïm Belhaloumi(Cie Body Knows Better) mixes movement, music and theater. Starting from a very concrete feeling of abandonment, which contradicts the way he perceives himself and situates himself in life, always clinging to his dreams. In this case, he derives pleasure from abundance. There is something human and intimate in this paradox. Starting from the idea that this personal sensation is concrete and something universal, he concludes that it contains the germ to bring people together, to generate empathy.

The ecstasy of catastrophe and legends as a starting point. Like the French expression Le chant du signe. Or the legend according to which parakeets were used by miners to warn them of danger. And the 1518 Strasbourg dance epidemic and tarantulism, a disease believed in the Middle Ages to be caused by the bite of a spider, the tarantula, and treated by a choreographic and musical ritual, the tarantella. All of these legends resonate with his feeling of being part of a “guilt-ridden generation” that is destroying the planet that protects him and that his disappearance is imminent in a world he loves and that at the same time frightens him the hope and conviction of wanting to experience this ecstasy before the catastrophe and to stretch this moment, to create a space where we can dance until we are exhausted, and laugh until we die and be the masters of our own destiny or perhaps our traps, but then be relieved.

A creation that plays with paradoxes.
