Lorena Spindler

FREE DANCE ESCAPE is inspired by a TikTok video. It forms the basis for the exploration of play, rhythm and improvisation for 6 dancers. FREE DANCE ESCAPE brings together dancers from different disciplines in a space where they can explore the idea of connecting with each other.

All movements are collective movements and the group is divided into interchangeable pairs. There is continuous contact through different levels of play and eyes. Online, users are said to be connected. This work focuses on this notion of connection and what it means in the real world. In a relationship of attraction and critique of these applications, the project attempts a hack.

Emerging from the need to return to the other, to empathy and kindness, FREE DANCE ESCAPE seeks to create new meeting spaces that act as a safe, imaginary and solidarity zone. The initial project invites 6 artists. From this matrix collective, Lorena invites couples to form a duo on stage. The project thus navigates between collective performance and duo.

Lorena Spindler (she) is a hybrid artist based in Brussels. She conceptualizes artistic proposals in the form of text, choreography, performance, staging, clip for the rap scene, experimental film. Her work focuses on questions about immediate sociological phenomena. During her theater studies at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, she was part of the Chapter One collective (including L0S1 – Zinnema, 2015).

In parallel with her writing studies at INSAS, she directed Softness 1 at C12 in 2018. The following year, she directed Softness 2. These are two forms that explore the competitiveness of three performers through freestyle and dance, physical theater, improvised speech, rap and sound. She then immersed herself in choreography and dance as self-taught and through the dance and choreographic practice course at Charleroi danse.
