Hoeveel vertrouwen heb je nodig om iemand een uur op je kind te laten passen? Om iemand aan te stellen als poetsvrouw in je kantoor? Hoe kan je nagaan of iemand geloofwaardig genoeg is (en wat is dan genoeg) om je huissleutels te krijgen? Om met je auto te mogen rijden? Om je psycholoog te kunnen zijn? Is een vrouw geloofwaardig als zij liegt over haar leeftijd? Een tiener die verzwijgt dat hij geadopteerd is? Een man die liegt over zijn salaris tegen zijn echtgenote? Kunnen we vertrouwen hebben in ons vertrouwen?
De voorstelling is in het Engels en Arabisch met Nederlandse ondertiteling.
Enrica Camporesi is van opleiding Arabiste en onderzoekt sinds 2010 het gebruik in theater van mondelinge getuigenissen over historische feiten waar geen eenduidige geschiedschrijving van bestaat. Vertrekkende van de theaterscène in het naoorlogse Libanon, concentreerde ze zich de laatste jaren over de getuigenissen van vluchtelingen in Europa. Sinds maart 2015 werkt ze in Antwerpen als leerkracht maatschappelijke oriëntatie voor Arabischtalige nieuwkomers en vluchtelingen. Daarnaast werkte ze in Italië, Frankrijk, Libanon en Egypte als vertaalster, PR-manager en theatermaker.
Elena Mazzi is beeldend kunstenares. Haar werk handelt over de relatie tussen de mens en het milieu waarin hij leeft en dagelijks mee moet afrekenen. Met een antropologische aanpak, onderzoekt en documenteert ze via optredens, video-installaties, kunstboeken en andere media, een identiteit die zowel persoonlijk als collectief is. Ze verbindt kunst, architectuur, sociologische en geografische kwesties met een origineel perspectief op de dagelijkse aspecten van het sociale leven. – www.elenamazzi.com

[EN] – How much trust would you need to let someone take care of your kid for an hour? To give someone a job as an office cleaner? How do you establish if someone is credible enough (and how much enough is “enough”) to get the keys to your house? to drive your car? to be chosen as your psychologist? Is a credible person a woman who lies about her age? A teenager who hides that he is adopted? A man who pays a fortune to a forger for a fake passport?Can we always trust in our feelings of trust?
A man and a woman sit in front of each other. A protection officer and an asylum seeker wait for the interpreter. In the meanwhile, they start chatting, even flirting, and exploring their mutual expectations. What if such an interview is a real maker or breaker in the life of the asylum seeker?
“Performing the self – the interview” is an intimate dialogue about credibility, trust, mutual expectations and the re-enactment of one’s own truth in the unique juridical frame of the asylum procedure.
The performance is in English, Dutch and Arabic with Dutch subtitles.
About Us
After an academic formation in Arab language and literature, Enrica Camporesi (1985) combined working as a theatre director for socio-cultural projects with refugees and asylum seekers with her research, translating and writing activity in Lebanon, Egypt, Italy and Belgium. She currently works as a social integration teacher for Arab newcomers and refugees in Antwerpen, gathering stories, interviews and different perspectives on truth and credibility. Based on her social research, she is further developing her theatrical and writing practice.Elena Mazzi (1984) is a visual artist, working with specific geographical and socio-political contexts. Her poetics deal with the relationship between man and the environment in which he lives and with which he must reckon on a daily basis. This analysis, which often follows an anthropological approach, investigates and documents an identity which is at the same time personal and collective, and gives rise to forms of exchange and transformation.
