Residence Junior Akwety

Junior Akwety combines 3 researches in 1 residency program.
From 07.02 in Rataplan he dives deeper into different disciplines and projects! He will work on a dance project, a historical music project and a participatory theater project for and by young people.

MY HOUSE is a dance performance about house music and culture ism Zach Swagga. An examination of the origins and symbols of different traditions that influence the house movement and music.
ROOTS IN ROUTES is a musical journey about the connection between Congolese and Cuban Rumba music ism Enrique Noviello (Bandoneon & Saxophone, Murga) and Yodi Omankoy (musician, specialist Bantu music). An exploration of the journey of instruments and the evolution of rhythms through continents and centuries.
En BUREN is a participatory workshop series around theater with and for young people together with Aïcha Cissé and Nabil Mallat as coaches.
An introduction to the creative process of making theater. Through the reenactment of everyday scenes to learn and gain insight into the creative process of tomorrow’s culture. This workshop series at Rataplan is part of a course they already started at the Kiel.

Junior Akwety is a singer, songwriter and actor. His music took him halfway around the world, from Los Angeles to Cape Town. He has in recent years played himself in the spotlight in the productions Malcolm X and L’Homme de La Mancha and most recently in Who’s Tupac?
(KVS).
Besides performing, he also wants to work as a creator with new concepts and artistic languages, forging alliances with artists from different disciplines.

The residencies MY HOUSE and Roots in Routes are in collaboration with MESTIZO ARTS PLATFORM and Rataplan.
